Summary:

The accident occurred upon landing on Runway 25 at Carlisle Airport, Cumbria in clear weather, low wind conditions and with good visibility. The pilot reported that he flared too late, resulting in heavy contact between the runway and the right main wheel which then became detached from the aircraft. The nose of the aircraft then came down hard resulting in the sideways collapse of the nose wheel assembly. The propeller also broke and some pieces damaged the material of both wings. The aircraft subsequently skidded along the runway for a short distance. The pilot, who was uninjured, vacated the aircraft unaided.
