General Aviation - Fixed Wing
Summary:
The aircraft was engaged on aero-tow duties for club gliders. The pilot was an experienced glider pilot and instructor, whose powered flying experience was mainly gained on aero-tow aircraft and motor-gliders. As the aircraft completed its turn onto final approach, it rolled to the right and departed from controlled flight. The pilot was unable to arrest the roll and the aircraft struck the ground right wing tip first, suffering substantial damage, though there was no fire. The pilot was wearing a four point harness and suffered only minor injuries. After a subsequent dual flight check the pilot was of the opinion that the aircraft had suffered a stall and wing drop in the gusty wind conditions that prevailed at the time.
