The aircraft was flying from RAF Cottesmore, Rutland, to RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire, for the Royal International Air Tattoo, where it was to be on static display for the weekend. During the flight the aircraft made a planned Practice Diversion to Oxford (Kidlington) Airport for a visual circuit to Runway 19. As the aircraft turned onto final approach control was lost and the pilot ejected, safely. The aircraft crashed on the A4620 road where it struck a passing car, causing minor injuries to the driver.
