Streak Shadow SA, G-WYAT

Summary:

The aircraft had performed several circuits at Oban Airport in clear visibility with an 11 kt wind from 220°. The pilot then elected to practice short field landings on Runway 19. During the first approach, the aircraft encountered what the pilot considered to be windshear so he applied full engine power and performed a go-around. During the second approach the aircraft encountered windshear in the same area, but the pilot was unable to arrest the rate of descent in time, leading to a heavy landing on the aircraft’s main landing gear. The damage to the main boom was discovered after he had taxied the aircraft back to a hangar. The pilot, wearing a four-point harness, sustained no injuries. He considered that the heavy landing was caused by applying insufficient engine power to arrest the rate of descent during the landing.
