Yak-52, G-CBRU

Summary:

The pilot rejoined the circuit at Enstone after a flight in the local area. Due to the number of aircraft in the circuit, the pilot was required to ‘go-around’ on the first two attempts to land. On the final downwind leg, when lowering the landing gear, he noticed that the flaps were still deployed, which he then retracted. After completing a normal approach, the subsequent landing appeared to be ‘a little bouncy’ and, as the aircraft de-rotated, the propeller struck the ground. The pilot and his passenger were uninjured. The pilot believes that the he had inadvertently retracted the landing gear on the downwind leg of the final circuit, due to a loss of concentration brought about by the two previous go-arounds and the high volume of radio traffic from other aircraft in the circuit.
