Piper PA-28R-201T Turbo Cherokee Arrow III, G-BNNX

Summary:

The student had complete four circuits as part of an instructional flight and on the base leg of the fifth circuit the student called that he was ‘taking the gear’. On finals the student carried the ‘finals’ check which included checking the green ‘down and locked’ indication for the landing gear. The approach was normal and there was very little wind. The aircraft touched down with the underside of the fuselage scraping along the runway, before coming to a rapid stop. The engine was shut down immediately and both the student and instructor evacuated the aircraft without difficulty. The instructor had checked the three green, down and locked indication for the landing gear on the previous circuit, but on the final circuit she could not see past the student’s hand to check the landing gear position indication.
