Piper PA-32-301 Saratoga, G-BIWL

Summary:

The commander reported that the weather CAVOK with a surface wind from 040º at 9 kt. He added that he flew the final approach at approximately 80 kt with 40 degrees of flap. The aircraft touched down 80 m from the threshold bouncing slightly and started to drift to the left hand edge of the runway. Due to insufficient runway length remaining a go around was initiated. He added that after selecting full power, though the engine sounded normal, the aircraft briefly became airborne again before the left wing dropped. The aircraft then veered to the left before leaving the paved surface of the runway. It then continued down a small slope, sliding to its right, before impacting a stone wall. It appears that the aircraft was over-rotated by the commander and/or co-pilot to such a high nose attitude that it stalled back on to the runway. As a result of the accident the passenger seated in the right rear seat suffered a broken left shoulder and a dislocated right shoulder. The aircraft was assessed as being damaged beyond economical repair. As a result the aircraft’s engine was not tested by a repair agency.
