The flying instructor was demonstrating an ‘engine-off’ approach to his pupil, when the aircraft (a flex-wing microlight) struck a tree close to the final approach. Post-mortem toxicology indicated that the instructor’s blood alcohol level was 137 mg/100ml. The UK prescribed limit for pilots is 20 mg/100ml; that for driving is 80mg/100ml.
