Cessna F172H Skyhawk, G-AWUX
Date of occurrence: 27 September 2008
Summary:
After an uneventful approach to Runway 27 with 40º flap selected, the aircraft touched down at 58 kt. The pilot reported that he then commenced normal braking, but encountered an area of “damp green grass”, as a result of which the aircraft started to skid slightly. He was unable to stop completely and, just before reaching the end of the runway, he steered to the right in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid a low hedge and retaining wall beyond. The aircraft struck both at slow speed, estimated at less than 10 kt, and was brought to rest. Afterwards, both occupants were able to evacuate without difficulty through their respective cabin doors.
